SHOWCASE: Great Unclean One

A greater daemon of Nurgle

This handsome looking fellow is a Greater Daemon of Nurgle, otherwise known as a Great Unclean One. This is the physical embodiment of the Chaos god, Nurgle. This particular rendition is from Games Workshop's Forge World subsidiary. It's a fantastic model to paint and well worth spending the time on (not least because of the hefty price tag that goes with it!). I painted this about four or five years ago, but it's still one of my favourite models in my collection.

Like most models in Games Workshop's daemons range, this one can be used in both their Warhammer (fantasy) and Warhammer 40,000 (science fiction) game systems. In this case, I'm using it in Warhammer 40,000, as part of a modest daemon contingent to sit alongside my Death Guard on the display shelf. This is a real centrepiece model in any collection. At 110mm, almost four times the height of a space marine, it dwarfs nearly all of the other miniatures around it (including some tanks!). I love the level of detail on the model. The skin is lined and cracked and covered in boils and sores... and that's before you get to the fact its guts are hanging out!
